Ivan Ivanov was born in the city of Kazanluk, Bulgaria and grew up in a town called Gurkovo, Bulgaria. In 1981 he joined the Greco Roman wrestling program at the Sports School & Technical College in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. He graduated in 1987. Ivan joined the Bulgarian Elite Army sports program in 1987 and until 1992 competed in Greco Roman Wrestling for the Central Army Sport’s Club in Sofia, Bulgaria. During 1993 to 1997 Ivan Ivanov competed for the Wrestling Club Slavia Litex in Sofia, Bulgaria.

- Bulgarian Wrestling Federation – 1995 Gold Belt Winner of the Grand Pre Nikola Petrov Greco Roman Wrestling Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria
- Olympian 1996 Atlanta, Georgia, USA – finished 5th place for the country of Bulgaria
- 5 x Bulgarian National Greco Roman Wrestling Champion and 2 x times nominated as an outstanding wrestler.

1999 Ivan Ivanov was nominated as a director and Head Wrestling Coach for the Wrestling Program at the Treehouse Athletic Club or (TAC) in Salt Lake City, Utah, one of the most prestigious health fitness clubs in the area of Salt Lake City. At TAC, Ivan was involved mostly with youth wrestling up to Junior age.
For a period of 3 years at TAC Ivan was able to prepare the young wrestlers to win gold medals at the US- Nationals in the following age groups: School Boy, Cadet and Junior.
Some individuals of the Cadets and Juniors coached by Ivan Ivanov were able to make the USA Cadet and Junior World Teams. USA Wrestling selected Ivan Ivanov as the “Western Regional Developmental Coach of the Year” in 2000.
Ivan led the Greco Roman wrestling team from Utah to win 2nd place at the 2001 National Team Duals in Oklahoma.

In February of 2002 USA Wrestling along with the USA Olympic Committee and Northern Michigan University created a full time Greco Roman Wrestling Coach position at the Olympic Training Center in Marquette, Michigan.
The program was designed for young athletes coming right out of high school to dedicate their wrestling career solely to Greco Roman Wrestling during their education at Northern Michigan University.
Ivan Ivanov was nominated as the new Head Coach for the Greco Roman Wrestling Team at the United States Olympic Education Center (USOEC).
With a lot of hard work and dedication Ivan Ivanov was able to recruit some of the best young wrestlers in the nation and prepare them to win medals at the world championships and Olympic Games. Some of the best wrestlers recruited and coached by Ivan Ivanov at the Olympic Training Center in Marquette were:

Ivan Ivanov registered Suples Wrestling club in Boise Idaho. From the time period 2010 until 2014 Suples Wrestling Club have won 6 Gold Medals from the Cadet and Juniors Nationals in Fargo, ND. 1 x Bronze medal from 2013 Cadet World Championships.
2012 – USA National Hall of Fame, Life Time Service to Wrestling Award.
Saturday, May 5, 2012 Ivan Radnev Ivanov was Inducted with highest honors into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame of the United States of America for a Lifetime of Distinguished Service and Achievement. Execulsive Director of the National Headquarters and the National Museum at Stillwater, Oklahoma;
Mr. LeRoy Smith, personally took great pride in presiding over the beautiful induction ceremonies, and illuminated the magnitude of Coach Ivanov's accomplishments and contributions as a World Class Coach, Athlete, Enterepreneur, and a Guiding Light for the Sport of Wresling in America. Ivan willbe honored by permanent enshinement at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, on the Oklahoma State University Campus, along whit America's Wrestling best in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Ivan's younger Brother Stefan flew in from Bulgaria to help celebrate, honor ,and represent his Mother Netka and Father Rodnei for the occasion; and Ivan was surrounded by his beautiful wife Silviya , daughters Magdalena and Katarina, son Ivancha and other members of his Familly.
